
About Zenobia
Songwriter and recording artist Zenobia began her music career in her church choir in Los Angeles where she taught herself to play the piano at five years old and wrote her first song at age eight. After winning local talent shows and awards in acting, at 18, she debuted in the Los Angeles company of the rock musical, “HAiR”, then was sent to New York to join the original Broadway company for a year and a half. While still on Broaddway, Zenobia became a studio singer on recording sessions and live gigs.
She’s worked as a backup singer with producer Eddie Kramer, recording engineer to (and co-creator with Jimi Hendrix in the Electric Lady Studios in NYC) on projects with Jobriath, JF Murphy and Salt. Also sang backup for recording artists Jane Olivor, Julie Budd, Gene Pitney, Keith Avedon, Tommy Mandel and James Blood Ulmer.
She toured in the National Touring Companies of Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar for three years. At the time that Zenobia released a 12″ single, “In The Night” on Streetwise Records and co-produced Billboard’s Dance charted, “Living For The Weekend” by Rockers Revenge, her friend, Paul Jabara asked her to record and perform a song, “It’s Raining Men” he co-wrote with Paul Shaefer (of Late Night with David Letterman fame) debuted at Gay Pride in NY which soon after became a disco hit on the Columbia record label featuring her as an original Weather Girl.
Recording artists Leon Ware (Elektra), The Ritchie Family (RCA) and Platinum Hook (Motown) have also recorded her original songs.
Some of her co-writers have been Carol Bayer Sager, Marti Sharron, Denise Rich, James (D-Train) Williams and Lisa Ratner.
An award-winning producer in Advertising (1 CLIO, 3 CEBAS, 3 Tellys & Black Achiever Award), Zenobia has produced singers Patti Austin, Valerie Simpson, Michael Bolton, Lou Rawles, BJ Thomas, Vickie Sue Robinson for commercial voiceovers. In the role of Director, she worked with singers and actors Richie Havens, Ossie Davis, Busta Rhymes, Angie Bofill and Eddie Griffin.
Zenobia debuted her first CD, “Home” in 2000.
Since 2010, Zenobia has performed in Santa Fe, NM, Albuquerque, NM, New York, NY, Zug, Switzerland, and toured West Texas as a solo performer and with Jay Boy Adams.
In 2014, Zenobia won Best Gospel Song for “One More Night” from her CD, “Resurrection”. In 2015, “Resurrection” won Best CD of the Year sponsored by the New Mexico Music Awards.
Besides the piano, she also plays guitar, Harmonium, D’jembe drum and other percussive instruments and is a vocal arranger and vocal coach.
Zenobia has been teaching “Singing The Blues,” offered by the New Mexico Jazz Workshop, for over 10 years. In 2025 she began the “Songwriting Class”. The classes are so popular they had to offer two per year.
